Carol Gildar has combined her love for color, design, and texture to create watercolor paintings, unique one-of-a-kind handpainted silk scarves, and wearable clothing using silk, fabulous fabrics, and interesting texture combinations and embellishments. She is greatly influenced by interpretations of Asian, floral and geometric motifs that can be readily applied to her art and to her original greeting cards and prints.
Carol has won many awards for her watercolor work and has adapted those talents to silk painting and surface design when sewing her jackets and vests.
Carol is a graduate of Moore College of Art in Philadelphia. She is a member of Illinois Artisans, The Fine Line Creative Arts Center and The Needlearts Guild of the North Shore of Chicago. Carol participates in shows throughout the year including the Chicago Botanic Garden Fiber Show.
She grew up in Pennsylvania in a large family, where she realized her love of art at a very young age, and sewing with her grandmother produced a lifelong love of fabrics and creating unique clothing. Her parents encouraged her talent and she pursued her creative career in art in New York City for many years before moving to Illinois. She has traveled extensively and always finds wonderful fabrics and inspirational scenery for painting, whereever she goes. Carol maintains a studio in Illinois. Her creations are in private collections throughout the United States and internationally. Carol’s work can be viewed on her websites at www.carolgildar.com, www.gildargraphics.com and www.gildarhandpaintedsilk.com.
